About Adam
Here is a brief background on me, I'm a northerner living amongst southerners, from Darlington originally, I went to a small campus of the University of Manchester and did a Joint Honours Sport Science Degree with Business Management graduating back in 1999 (where I met my now wife who is form London). I actually pursued the business aspect of the degree and worked for Orange for 4 years, the last year was spent in London, I then worked as a Project/Contract Manager for a recruitment & staffing company for about 6 years. I was always active when younger, playing every sport going although mostly football & running. Over the years the amount and regularity of sport diminished as work took over and socialising took over, I stayed active and relatively fit but I was more out of shape than in. Then I got engaged and decided to get back into shape for the wedding so I rediscovered my love of running, signed up for a few 10k's, trained myself and got a lot healthier. Over the next few years I joined bootcamps (yes it was BMF), went on adventure holidays and took part in a lot more races from 5k to half marathons. Basically I then saw an opportunity about 18 months ago to take redundancy from my old job and qualify as a Personal Trainer, initially this was just something I wanted to do for myself and not intended as a career change. However this soon became what I wanted to do full time, there were various reasons but two very good ones are my twins Theon & Maya and the flexibility that being a self employed PT gives me.
I have my own Personal Training business, it is a growing business but I have loyal clients and tend to specialise in running coaching, I also do my own small group training in parks local to my home and put on running club courses. In addition to this I do a couple of shifts a week in a gym. My main passion is for running, both the coaching of it and the act itself, be it an organised race or just taking myself out somewhere random and going on a yomp using shanks pony! In terms of training I prefer functional training and the use of bodyweight, minimising equipment use to enable a 'training anywhere' approach. This was what first attracted me to the Urban Gym.

About Charlie
I love the outdoors and all things fitness! A thrill seeker by nature my favourite activities are skiing, snowboarding, surfing and mountain biking but my competitive spirit (thanks to a sporty older bro) means I also enjoy more traditional ball sports such as netball, hockey, football, tennis and golf- all of which I’ve played at a good competitive level. I moved to London in 2004 after spending several years doing ski seasons in New Zealand and Europe. With the intention of finding a ‘proper job’ I worked in charity fundraising for 3 years before being drawn to the fitness industry through my love of running and outdoor circuit training. A friend introduced me to the Rat race in 2005 with the promise that if I joined the team, I’d get to abseil off a crane and drink free beer! I literally jumped at the chance and never looked back (or should I say down!) since completing 3 more rat races. I love the spirit of the rat race and am proud to work for the urban gym, bringing a sense of adventure to keeping fit in the city. I believe training outdoors is vital not only for physical fitness but for mental fitness, especially when living our day to day lives in the unnatural urban environment of the city. I really enjoy sharing this enthusiasm and helping others to achieve their fitness goals, while having fun and looking a bit silly in the process!

My sporting background started in competitive middle and long-distance running. Now I just run for fun, sneaking into the last two London Marathons'. At 18 I took up Martial Arts and practised various systems obtaining a 1st degree blackbelt in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu which I no longer practice. About Nicola
Having worked in sales for many years I was feeling bored and my weight was creeping up. I saw an ad for an open day with the YMCA and went along. As soon as I spoke to the team there I was hooked and knew I wanted to pursue a career in fitness. I signed up for the Exercise to Music / studio instructor award which I completed and then spent all my spare time that year gaining other qualifications, spin, aqua, Fitness Pilates, and finally the personal trainer award. I quit my job and worked full time for a gym until I had built up enough business to work for myself which I have been doing for the past 5 years. Earlier this year I decided I wanted to add something else to my career so I started a BSc in Human Nutrition at the University of Westminster. I started working for Urban Gym when it was first launched in the early part of 2010 I love the kit-less approach to fitness and the variety of the routes is a great way to see the city.
