Running Department and Gait Analysis Shoe Fitting

At Rat Race we want to make sure you train and take on your next challenge in the shoes that suit how you run.  We offer shoes across the running spectrum, from Roads and Trails to Fells and Mountains; stocking the premium brands in running performance with a shoe fitting service to match.

When you're running you are constantly pounding your muscles and joints with up to 2.5 times your body weight. Using the right shoes and inner soles you can eliminate this stress by increasing the support of your feet, improving your running posture and joint alignment whilst maximising shock absorption. Our gait analysis shoe fitting service includes a 15 min session using our treadmill, Templo video analysis and Footdisc pressure plate. Book now for £15, free if you buy a pair of shoes. We even offer a 14 day test period to make sure the shoes are just right.

Looking for the very best deal? Buy a Membership Card for £7.50 and you can save an extra 15% off the cost of the session, shoes and clothing including brands such as Asics, Inov8, New Balance, Adidas, Saucony , Salomon, La Sportiva, Gore and Ronhill. Bike Servicing

We offer a range of servicing options for your bike, from a basic tune-up to a full strip down and rebuild. It’s all carried out in house by our expert team, so your ride and joy will be in safe hands.

Rat Race Bike Fitting and Analysis

As at a majority of Cycle Shops a bike fit simply means standing across the bike placing your heel in the pedals and reaching for the handlebars.

At Rat Race our bike fittings and analysis go beyond what a cycle shop can offer. Our two Bikefit® Technicians are trained and experienced to the highest standards within the industry and between them have performed hundreds of Fittings and Analysis. Whether you are looking for a new bike, getting the best from an existing bike or looking to gain more power, eliminate aches and pains or just re-discover the joy of just getting out and riding, then at Rat Race we have the right solution for you.

At Rat Race we use a mixture of our own expertise, a Calfee® sizer cycle, Gebiomized pressure analysis and Dartfish® video analysis to ensure the correct level of service. We offer this service to both genders and Kirsty also holds an M.Sc. in Sports Therapy so aches and pains can be dealt with.

The Bike Fitting at Rat Race could not be simpler to understand and is as follows:

Dynamic Bike Analysis: (Option C)

This is a 3hr+ process and involves a personal and body assessment evaluating your goals be they recreational or competitive. An assessment to ascertain your current flexibility, joint range of motion, strength and more. This is carried out by Kirsty our in house Sports Therapist. It is then followed by time on the bike under the gaze of our technicians and Dartfish® video capture. We aim to work from the foot pedal interface up and have a range of accommodations to optimise your riding and comfort.  This is also enhanced using Gebiomized pressure analysis and mapping to target key areas.

Current Bike Fitting:  (Option B)

This is a 1-2hr process and involves the use of Dartfish® video technology to assess your current set up on your existing bike. A current bike fit combines our fitting experience and training to look at real time joint angles and measurements. Once assessed it allows our technicians to target key areas to improve power, comfort and performance at a more competitive price

Sizer Session:  (Option A)

This session is for any rider who is interested in a new bike but is unsure as to whether they will get the optimum fit from an off the shelf cycle. The sizer session is undertaken on a Calfee® sizer cycle and will define the optimal bike position. This is achieved because the Calfee® sizer bike does not have the restrictions of a normal bike and is fully adjustable.

Finally all the above can be broken down into more manageable chunks or to target key areas.  These all take approximately 45-60 mins each.
